With rising energy prices and concerns
over fuel supply, the point has been reached where controlling
energy consumption in a home can truly make a difference. Climate
control is
typically the biggest contributor to utility costs in a home,
and properly controlling the climate is becoming easier in a
custom home. Controlling
the climate, however, is more involved than simply setting the thermostat.
Many factors contribute to
a heating/cooling system's ability to efficiently regulate temperature
within a home. Outside temperature, filter effectiveness, insulation,
sun position, window treatments, etc. all play a key role. Our
systems are designed around how the home responds to these influences
and how we can effectively control each. For example, in the
summer, automatic shades can be lowered on southwest-west facing
windows to limit its ability to raise indoor temperature. In
the winter we might want these shades open to gain benefit from
the sun.
Our solution tracks fan runtime to
prompt you to change the filter at the optimum time. We also
measure your system's ability to cool or heat given the outside
temperature. If it is struggling, on real hot days for example,
our system will turn ceiling fans on as well as drop all of the
shades we have control over.
Of course all of this is done automatically
so you don't have to worry about constantly changing thermostat
settings to respond to changes in the weather. Climate control
is just one of the benefits of a Cool House Home Automation solution.
Add in lighting, security, irrigation and audio/video control,
and you have what we call a "Really Smart Home", one that automatically
respond to your everyday events like waking up, leaving, cooking,
entertaining, etc.
